'Exciting as ever': Delta Goodrem on finding talent and her new family
As the longest-serving judge on The Voice, it might be understandable if Delta Goodrem was a touch blasé about returning to her chair-spinning role.
But the glamorous fan favourite reveals she’s just as passionate about mentoring new talent as she was in season one. We find out what keeps her happy in the hot seat.
What does the eighth season of The Voice have in store for us?
The show is as exciting as ever. We have the All Stars and artists you’ve seen previously who have come back to audition again. I love seeing artists grow; I discover so much about their craft through the show.
What’s that one special thing that makes you turn your chair?
When you know there is potential and you want to be their mentor; you love their tone or something just grabs you. You also have the open souls with fragility in their voices. Then there are the absolute pros who you feel confident will hit every note and be a force.
What has been a highlight for you during The Voice?
Finding a family. I have made a lot of friends with my artists. Team Delta is not just a word on the TV screen, it’s something that has a lot of meaning to me.
What has been the biggest challenge?
The dynamic of coaches – when you switch one person it changes the entire show and that’s been really fascinating to see. We’re lucky we’ve had three years with Boy George, Kelly Rowland, myself and a couple of different coaches along with us.
How would you describe your personal style?
This year I have fallen in love with fashion again. It’s been fun to play with different looks and allow my style to evolve. It’s a pared-back, edgier look but still with a hint of glamour.
An item you couldn’t live without?
My Balmain blazer. It’s extremely versatile and a wardrobe essential.
How do you like to spend your Sundays?
If I am not working on my new album in the studio, I am going for a walk and getting fresh air. One of my favourite things is to enjoy a great coffee, have brunch and catch up with friends. I try to have a restful day and get organised for a great week ahead.
The Voice premieres on May 19 at 7pm on Nine.
